God is always willing to help us when we are going through times of trial. He wants to help us stay on the path toward eternal life. God understands the difficulty of our challenges. Enduring in the gospel means understanding that adversity is a normal part of life, and even when circumstances become difficult, God wants us to stay devoted to Him. Everyone will encounter difficulties and challenges throughout their life, regardless of whether or not they dedicate their life to God. Here, God is teaching through His prophet that although we must make promises with God through covenants like baptism, those promises won’t matter unless we are fully committed to keeping them. In this scripture, as well as throughout the rest of the Book of Mormon, “endure” comes without the negative context. This scripture may be confusing to some because the word “endure” often has a negative connotation that implies suffering. In the Book of Mormon, the prophet Nephi taught, “Unless a man shall endure to the end, in following the example of the Son of the living God, he cannot be saved” (2 Nephi 31:16). ![]() Additionally, the speakers in this collection have focused on what endurance truly means and why it matters in our individual lives. It is taught and expounded on by prophets today. Jesus Christ taught this concept in both the Bible and the Book of Mormon. One of the most important principles of the gospel is enduring to the end. ![]()
